On the Performance of the Sum-of-Sinusoids Simulation Models for Rayleigh Fading Channels

چکیده
This paper deals with the Sum-Of-Sinusoids (SOS)-based simulation method for generating timecorrelated Rayleigh fading processes. Five of the most accepted and recently proposed SOS-based Rayleigh fading models have been analyzed and compared. We have used the mean and the maximum power margin quality measures to assess the accuracy of the autocorrelation function (ACF) of the generated processes. The quality of the envelope probability density function (PDF) is evaluated using the Jeffrey's divergence (J-div) criterion. A comparison in terms of the time of execution is additionally presented. Compared with both stochastic and deterministic SOS models, the recently published Wang’s model has proven to be very successful. This model is shown to outperform all SOS models. Although Zheng and Xiao have recently introduced new SOS models, these latter have failed to achieve the performances reached by their first model which remains as the best choice among the Zheng and Xiao’s family of models. Key-Words: Clarke’s model; Rayleigh fading simulators; Sum-of-Sinusoids method; Statistical properties.

Energy Detection of Unknown Signals over Composite multipath/shadowing Fading Channels
In this paper, the performance analysis of an energy detector is exploited over composite multipath/shadowing fading channels, which is modeled by Rayleigh-lognormal (RL) distribution. Based on an approximate channel model which was recently proposed by the author, the RL envelope probability density function (pdf) is approximated by a finite sum of weighted Rayleigh pdfs. Relying on this inter...
متن کاملLimitations of sum-of-sinusoids fading channel simulators
Rayleigh signal fading due to multipath propagation in wireless channels is widely modeled using sum-of-sinusoids simulators. In particular, Jakes’ simulator and derivatives of Jakes’ simulator have gained widespread acceptance. Despite this, few in-depth studies of the simulators’ statistical behaviors have been reported in the literature. Here, the extent to which Jakes’ simulator adequately ...
متن کاملBit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)
In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...

Diversity combining techniques play an important role in combating the destructive effects of channel fading in wireless communication systems. In this work we present a blind diversity combining technique for Rayleigh flat fading channels based on Hammerstein type filters. We show that the performance of this technique is very close to ideal MRC system which is accepted as an optimum receiver ...

– Channel simulators based on Rice’s sum-of-sinusoids are playing an important role in mobile fading channel modelling. However, the parameters of the sum-of-sinusoids have to be determined sophisticated to fully exploit the great potential that this powerful procedure has to offer. This paper provides a fundamental work on the stationary and ergodic properties of sum-of-sinusoids-based Rayleig...
